The start of an adventure

Whew, where has this month gone? It seems that at the beginning of an experience time stretches on like a never ending road and the end seems far far away. But when you take that first step on the journey time seems to disappear from under your feet.

Its almost time to take another breath, another step, another journey. We leave Texas for Freetown tomorrow morning. I have so many mixed feelings. Excitement at returning to the ship, nervous anticipation at the time spent in Freetown before hand and dread at the long journey and three plane rides ahead of us tomorrow (I HATE flying!).

My next next three weeks in Freetown will be spent with my Gateway group working on various projects ('field service' in Mercy Ships speak). Mostly though we will be working in an orphanage for disabled children. Most of these children have families but were rejected because of their disability. We will be doing activities, school work, adult education and construction work. Hopefully we will form good relationships with the children and all the staff and really see God working in both our lives and the lives of those we come in to contact with.

Please pray for:
  • Our bags to arrive safely (!)
  • For our flights to all run smoothly
  • To really be tuned to what services to provide for the children and their carers
  • For our team to draw together and bond well
I am not sure what internet access I will have over the next few weeks so bear with me if I am a little slow in keeping in contact!
